Pastel

I love working with pastels. Soft pastel was a true discovery for me. I started working with it after I had stumbled upon a large exhibition of Paula Rego, whose work I hadn’t come across yet. This was just a couple of months after she had passed away in 2022. The exhibition was a game changer for me. I felt an immediate love for Rego’s work (especially her figurative work), a recognition of her frustrations and fights, and an urge to tell stories. Pastels allow me to make the right compositions to tell the stories I want to tell. Acrylics as well, although I have to say that soft pastels will always be my go-to. The way it moves over the paper and shapes the figures layer by layer. For me it is the perfect medium to tell a story.
